Membership Chair Report: none

Old Business:

2005 Fall Field Trial:

The trial was successful, the club made money. Warmer temperatures made it a little more challenging.

2005 National Open Delegates Meeting: Bill Boeckman

Member club dues remain at $75.00 for 2006.

The planned 2006 National Open: The Mid-East Interclub is hosting the event at the Hillendale Hunt Club and Crawford Farms outside Altoona, PA.  Jim Boon will be the Field Trial Chairman.

Point qualification remains at one point for the 2006 National Open.

Entry fees for the 2006 National Open will be $200.00.

We have a different cutoff date for the qualification of dogs to enter the National.  The closing date of the National Open will be eighteen days before the starting date of the trial, and only placement in trials held before that date will qualify a dog for entry in the National Open

A committee will be formed, headed by Bob Montler, to look into addressing the issue of forming a “Board of Directors” that can handle the discussion and investigation of issues  facing the National and could provide some consistency in the recommendations that are made to the delegates for approval.

2005 National Amateur Delegates Meeting: Mary Kemper

The 2006 club dues remain at $75.00 per club

Don Bramwell announced that the 2006 NAC would begin December 4, 2006 in the Hutchinson/McPherson, KS area.  This is the same area where the 2004 NOC was held.

The 1 point qualification remains in effect for the 2006 Nat’l Amateur

2006 NAC qualification period runs from July 1, 2005 to July 1, 2006, with a closing 30 days prior to the event. The July 1 cut-off for qualifications continues from year to year after 2006.  Dogs placing July 1 through November 6, 2006, will be grandfathered in for this year only.

Don Bramwell moved that there be a requirement that “to be eligible to judge the National Amateur you must have ran a dog in the past 2-3 years”.

it was decided it was too vague to warrant going back again to ask prospective judges if they were willing to judge and/or if they’d “ran” a dog in the past 2-3 years.

Even though the ballot still said to judge in order of preference, an email and/or a postcard was sent out to everyone who was qualified to vote notifying them that this rule should not have been left on the ballot – the ballot is no longer “weighted”.

Jerry Barrett moved that the NAC Secretary contact each person on the judges list as to their interest in judging the NAC that year.  They would need to respond - yes or no - in writing.  If no response, then the NAC Secretary is to assume the answer is no.  Seconded. Carried.

Cathy Lewis moved that the judges’ ballot no longer be weighted.  Seconded. Carried.

Cathy Lewis also talked about buying national grounds.  There was no motion made.

New Business:

The Open & Amateur stakes will be judged by Tom Meyer and Tom Ness.  The puppy stake will be judged by Dennis DuErr and Mike Petrich.  The all age stakes will be run on all roosters.

The trial will held April 8th & 9th on Jamie Peterson's & Merlyn Proechel's grounds located just south of Waseca, MN.   The field trial headquarters will be located in Owatonna, MN at the Owatonna Grand Hotel & Convention Center. We will be having a banquet Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the field trial headquarters.

MHESSC 2004 NATIONAL OPEN JUDGE CHOICES

Clay Earl

Chuck Nelson

FIELD TRIAL CHAIR/SECRETARY

Beginning spring of 2004, the AKC will be raising the fee they charge for recording events from $0.50 to $1.50 per entry.

FIELD TRIAL GUNNING

Effective July 1st 2003, all gun captains for any AKC ESS Field Trial must be a “graduate” of the ESSFTA field trial gunning program.  They are also requesting that the gun captains choose their gunners from the Q and P list first.

VET CANCER REGISTRY

The Vet Cancer Registry (www.vetcancerregistry.com) was started to collect meaningful statistical information about cancers in our canine and feline companions. It is now the largest registry of its kind with over 7500 cases and contributions from veterinarians and veterinary institutions all over the world. It is self-explanatory, user friendly and completely free. Although designed for veterinarians, I think you will find lots of useful information on it. I'm also requesting that you encourage your local veterinarian to contribute cases. If our breed is underrepresented it is because your veterinarians aren't contributing. It takes a few minutes to enter a case (this must be done by a veterinarian or a veterinary technician). It is free to them and privacy is strongly enforced.

ISSUANCE OF FOUR BROOKS TRAINING PASSES

Four Brooks training passes are $10.00 each this calendar year. One must be a member of our club or another club that belongs to Four Brooks Training.  Passes can be purchased from Mary Kemper.

PET CARE INSURANCE

With pet care costs increasing, insurance may be a worthwhile option for many. One emergency trip is usually a minimum of $250.00; insurance companies are offering policies between $8.00 to $18.00 a month for cats and dogs. These cover accidents and illness, but not routine care, like vaccinations and spaying/neutering, which can be offered for an extra fee. On the Internet just type in the search area  “pet care insurance” and you will find many different companies offering insurance for your pet.

MN HEARTLAND ESSC NEWS
November 2002

Update on the 2002
ESS National Open

With the Championship drawing so close, we just returned from Redwood Falls to make final plans. Where so much of the country has been suffering from a drought, we have had well over average rainfall. We walked the fields that we will actually be using and a few more. We think most everyone will be pleased with the cover and terrain that we have chosen.

Some of our trialers who have attended banquets for many years have suggested we return to dress clothes. That may be too big a transition, but we do request everyone not attend the banquet in field clothes. Thank you.

Our headquarters motel, Jackpot Junction Casino Hotel, has been very helpful and cooperative on anything we have asked for. However, they have a strict prohibition of dogs in the hotel and rooms. We ask that no one abuse this. The Comfort Inn on the east side of Redwood Falls, only 10 or 15 minutes away from the headquarters, does allow dogs in rooms.

The number of points required to run a dog in a National Championship will be on the agenda. I will ask one of the committee members who worked on the report to give a brief summary preceding an open discussion by the delegates.

I would expect that several delegates have instructions from their clubs and would like to be heard. Because of this, the meeting could be long and weary. I ask that anyone who wishes to be heard give their concise thoughts/feelings and limit their time to three minutes. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

For those who will be attending this first national competition in Minnesota, we wish you well and will make every effort to provide conditions for an outstanding trial. I should also add Jackpot Junction will provide a very large area that is safe and contiguous to

the casino where dogs may be let out. Large vehicles may also be parked there with 24-hour security.

Roger Dolliff
President, 2002 NESSFTA

There are 139 entries in the 2002 National Open. Here is a listing of our club members who will be participating.

Roger Dolliff with Chatty and Buzz.

Jason Math with Gromit.

Jerry Barrett with Coffey and Nailer.

Bill Boeckman with:  Cassie, Jesse, Charlee, Sassy, Bailey, Abbey, Blaze, Trixie, Jake, Toby, and Callie.

I encourage the member s of the MHESSC to show your support of the National , the efforts of those putting this event together, and the participants.  Please make the time to come down and lend a hand.  Training for participants will take place on Sunday, November 10th from 10am until 4pm. The Open starts at 8am Monday, November 11th.  Maps to the ground will be found at the Jackpot Junction Casino Hotel, the headquarters. I hoped to see many of you there..  - Nadine

August 19, 2002

Dear Members,

The Summer is quickly passing by and Fall is almost on our doorstep. Fall
Field Trial premiums have already begun to arrive. Be sure to check the new
address for our Club's website at www.mhess.com or www.mhessc.org for
current field trial dates. If you do not receive a premium for a trial you
wish to attend, you may click on the host club's link to request one by
email.

Our 2002 Summer meeting was held Sunday, July14th at Darrell and Colleen
Peterson's.  Many thanks to our gracious hosts!  Much was discussed at the
meeting and afterwards the grill was fired up for food and fellowship. I've
attached a copy of the winter meeting notes, the Treasurer's report, as well
as the Spring Field Trial Report.  Please remember that this information is
for Club use only and is not to be shared outside of the MHESSC..

This year our club will be hosting two Fall Field Trials.  Tom Radde is the
Field Trial Chair for our club's first Cocker Field Trial, September
20th-22nd. Kevin Dresow is the Field Trial Chair for our Fall Springer
Field Trial October 5th & 6th. As these are club-sponsored events, your
help is needed!  If you are not participating in any other events either of
those weekends, please contact the Field Trial Chairs. Many hands make
light work.

With the addition of many new club members, I have attached new copy of the
Club Directory.  I've tried to update as many telephone numbers as I could.
Please review this listing and let me know of any errors.  We warmly welcome
our newest members:  Stacey Avery, Ryan Ruiz and Holly Fritz, Tim and Peggy
Sundheim, and Brian and Diane Barnes.

Congratulations go out to club members Jerry and Sue Wojtowicz, as the new
owners/publishers of Spaniels In The Field!  Please visit them at

HUMOR

Inner Strength
If you can start the day without caffeine or pep pills,
If you can be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when loved ones are too busy to give you time,
If you can overlook when people take things out on you when, through no fault of yours, something goes wrong,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
If you can do all these things,
.............Then you are probably the family dog.
